Finally here...

Hey guys...

After about 30 hours of travelling, I finally got to my hotel. I had a 13 hour flight to Taiwan, 9 hour lay over, 2 hour flight to Seoul or Incheon, and a 2-3 hour drive to Uiwan, which is right next to Pyeongchon. The flight to Taiwan was not bad because I actually slept 7 hours, watched a movie (Milk), and ate... TWICE! The nine hour lay over was soo boring, though, as was the flight to Seoul because I was just very tired. In a strange series of events, I was talking to this Korean guy next to me on the flight to Seoul and I told him I was going to teach English in Korea. He proceeded to tell me how he had just met a girl who was going to do the same thing. Then, I told him I was going to teach in Pyeongchon. Again, he proceeded to tell me that this girl he met was doing the same thing. Finally, I told him I was going to work for Avalon School. As luck would have it, the same girl that he talked to was going to teach at the same exact place AND she was ... sitting in the seat directly in front of me. I showed her my information because I was shocked and surprised. And, indeed, she was set to work with me AND ride with the same driver to Pyeongchon.

The driver we had was named Pep. He was Korean, and he spoke some English... really nice, too. But frankly, he was probably the stupidest person I have ever talked to in my life. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed his company because he was pretty entertaining, but he was a huge, HUGE nincompoop. One notable conversation we had revolved around getting in car crashes. I don't remember how we got on this subject, but he basically said how people get into car crashes and they ALWAYS end up just fine. I kept in mind that English was not his first language, so I tested his position. I asked him, "so, if you close your eyes and the car hits the cement pillar (we were driving under a freeway at the time), you would not get hurt?" Somehow (I have no idea how), he answered, "no." Somehow, he was ignorant enough to say that he would never be injured had an accident like the aforementioned scenario. You could understand my shock, so I had to ask him again JUST to give him the benefit of the doubt. I asked him, "what if you closed your eyes and drove off of a bridge, do you think you might get hurt then??" Again, no. Words cannot give justice to my actual reaction, but ... well you understand. Anyways, I thought he was a doof. He wasn't even aloof, by any means. He was just... mistaken. Seriously, though, he was a waste of life (said in the nicest way possible because he was rather entertaining)...

This is getting way too long, so I am going to summarize the rest. After we got to the hotel, I went out. The nightlife sucked, and I was disappointed. The bars, empty. People were walking around, but not many. We went out at about 10, and we got back by around 12. Zero, zilch, nada. Because we came home so early, I got a lot of sleep. I slept (without showering) immediately when I hit my bed, and I slept until 11am almost continuously. I woke up, had a sandwich across the street (ham and cheese) for 2 dollars. Best 2 dollar sandwich ever! After that, I went to Seoul with the girl I met on the plane and another guy from L.A. We went to Seoul, found a nice outside market that sold a lot of junk (a.k.a. stuff girls would love), and took a lot of pictures, like usual. Got tired around 6, came back, slept, and went out again. What I failed to mention early was that we met other people from Avalon School on our way out last night. Actually, we asked them where to go and the area they recommended was whack. But, they made up for it tonight. One guy was from Philly, another from Korea, and two others from CA - Sonoma and Hayward. Turns out Hayward had a roommate in college, and the guy's sister was class of 2006 at AHS. Ah! It's getting too long again. In short, we went out to a club and a bar, and it was chill. BS'd my way through the night and here I am updating everyone.

In fact, the REAL reason why I was inspired to update you all was because of Kris. In case you haven't heard, he is NOT having as much fun (currently). In his words (and I am ending with this): "dude are whole training group is being quarantined right now in a korean government facility. i finished training yesterday, and i was trapped in the hotel all today. now they moved us to a govn. facility, where we might stay here for 9 days. someone in our group had the swine flu and it may have spread to a few others. talk to you later when i hear more about it."

With that, I would like to say goodnight.... Goodnight!
