At the office...

To my fans,

So, I just finished prepping for my classes for the day, and I have an hour to kill before my first class starts. I’ve searched the web, and I have run out of mindless things to read/look at. Normally, I’d struggle through an article in The Economist or pretend like I’m smart and read the business section of the NY Times/SF Chronicle. But today, I just don’t have the energy for it. I had some Korean lessons today where I learned pronouns and more verbs. I’m getting better at Korean, but I can’t comprehend sentences fast enough. If I were in real situation, I’d be a mouth opened statute. My co-workers and boss are impressed with my progress, but I don’t think I’m doing that well. I have been out and about much too often. Hopefully, I can increase my Korean Language workload in the coming weeks by working with an Avalon Korean teacher 5 times a week. (Right now, I am at three times a week). From there, maybe I can try to get 6 times a week with a friend plus the Avalon teachers. Then, I would be in good shape.

Last night, my work had a going away celebration for three of the foreign teachers. One is leaving tomorrow and two more are leaving on Saturday. I’m kinda bummed because I feel like I’m still getting to know them, and they’re leaving so soon. On the other hand, we are getting new teachers to replace them. So, it’s kinda like the new teachers and I are all arriving at the same time. Whatever the case, we went to a bar called Wa Bar where we were basically 30 Avalon people sitting around tables, enjoying the company of those around us. (Confusing)? Ah. Anyways… shoot I have a meeting. BRB!

Goodness! That meeting took so long. Where was I? So, last night, messed around, hung out till 3am.

Hm... I guess I will tell you about my weekend? Friday, I had work until 9:30pm and I waited around for my Bri'ish chap, Tom. Tom, Kevin, and I all went out to Hongdae, which is the college area of Seoul. I had a lot of fun, and I ended up stumbling in my apartment at 7:30am. That night, I played pool, messed around, and played more pool. While I was walking around (taking a break from pool), I met these two guys that were so funny. One guy had an asian style fro. Courtesy of Scott and Kris, 2004, we ALL know what that looks like. Haha. Anyways, his name was Ganja. (For those that don’t understand, his name was slang for weed). The other guy did not care about anything, and he just did whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. He would go and shake everyone’s hand and he would say, “hi” to everyone on the streets. In one case, we were walking behind some girls, and he went right behind them and yelled really loudly. It scared the crap out of them. Haha. Ah. Anyways, I got home at 7:30am, went to sleep, and woke up at noon.

After I woke up, I went and played basketball (by myself… a non- scored game), and I chatted it up with one of my friends. I was out on the courts for like 5 hours, and then I went home, cooked some awesome salmon, and hung out at another friend’s house where the lot of us hung out and shot the breeze. On Sunday, I went to a baseball game between the SK Wyverns and the LG Twins. Pretty fun, the score was 5-3 in favor of the hometown Twins. Uh… The game was fun, it was cheap, and it lasted a reallllly long time. I think we met up at about 2:30pm and didn’t come back until 9:30pm, which was so long, and I almost died. The game was pretty cool, though. Besides the fact that the stadium was only 1/2 to 3/4 full, there was a lot of energy. When a team is up to bat, they have a little stage halfway into the stand where there is basically an MC and cheerleaders. For the twins, they had a guy, 4 cheerleaders, Hello Kitty, Badz Maru, and two Twin mascots. The plethora of mascots certainly made the game a lot more interesting. I actually felt like I was at a medium-sized RU football game. There were chants, thundersticks, and old ladies selling chips and dried calamari (yuck)!

This weekend, Kris is coming. I’m pretty excited because I think it’s been a little more than a month since I’ve seen the guy. We will be partying it up, and we may go to Lotte World, which is the Disneyland of Korea. I don’t really want to go, but the man is pretty insistent. Well, I will be sure to tell you all how the guy is… Now, I am running out of time, and I apologize if my stuff doesn’t make sense (no time to proof-read). I have to go eat sogogi-kimbop before I start class!

Sidenote and true story: I was asked to be a model for someone’s website, and I look like a former singer/celebrity to many people. Also, my head is inflating as I type this. Haha.

Talk to you guys soon! Leave comments.

Love,
Kyle

  2. Hi Kyle!

I enjoyed reading your interesting letter. Are you sure you are teaching and not just having fun (hahaha!) How old are the kids you teach? Are they well disciplined or are they like our kids, running around and doing crazy stuff.

We are all doing good and feeling well. Keithie moved in last night and Angela too but haven't stayed the night there.

    all my fishes died.

miss not going to lunch with you and paying your lunch bill--I'm saving so much money. So when you come home, I'm hiding cuz it's in the bank for one year, I can't take it out.

Tell Kris to write us a note once in a while--I want to know what he's doing.

Hope you and Kris are seeing each other quite often so it won't be so lonesome.

    Take care--love ya!
